Barbed wire has multiple meanings in art, depending on the context. It can represent confinement or imprisonment, as it is often used to restrict movement. It can also symbolize physical or emotional barriers that limit one's freedom. If you have never worked with barbed wire you should know that it is a sharp and potentially dangerous material; and so it can convey a sense of threat or aggression. However, barbed wire is most commonly associated with its use in warfare, border control, and as a symbol of resistance or oppression. In this particular project, exploring the theme of birds and eggs, the eggs symbolized soldiers, and unborn babies of the victims of Nazi genocide against Jews. Barbed wire was a fitting symbol to represent all the aforementioned meanings.
